You flop onto your bed after a long day, looking forward to cracking open a new book that’ll relieve your problems for a while. You’re sucked into the world and the characters’ relationships, laughing with the dialogue and relating to their pain, itching to see where the story goes, but then the ending comes: slamming you upside the head with a bitter impression that life is always going to be hard, so might as well stay miserable.
A pointless and hopeless message, making you feel like your real life problems are too hard to handle as well.
What if there was another way? You need deep, adventurous, yet victorious stories that show you:
Life can be dark…but you don’t have to be.
Hi, I'm Heather!
As I've read more Young Adult speculative fiction, (or even YA in general) I’ve gotten increasingly tired with the amount of inappropriate and depressing content that’s being put in them. Especially when the rest of the book is great with quality writing, deep themes and rich worldbuilding.
It’s hard to find books that actually have depth, hopeful endings, clean content and quality writing that don’t lean into the darkness too much.
If this also frustrates you, you’re in the right place. You’re the reader I write for!
